Message From State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurveda Hospitals Development and Community Health

Over 3000 years of Sri Lankan history, Ayurveda and Indigenous Medicine have played a significant role in the daily life of the people, and it is considered as a path way to achieve a prosperous and happy life. Explicitly, it is believed that a sick and needy person causes mental and financial discomforts to himself and as well as to his loved ones. Hence, Healthy life has become a more prominent factor for a human. We witness that, throughout the COVID19 pandemic situation, the contributions of Sri Lankan Ayurveda and Indigenous medical systems
are remarkable. The State ministry and other government organizations regulated under it have provided necessary guidance and narrations to the people in order to safeguard themselves from this pandemic. The duties and responsibilities assigned to every institute have been carried out effectively during this period. It is clear that there is a strong connection between Ayurveda and indigenous medicine and the tourism sector in Sri Lanka. Most tourists seek to experience the new aspects of traditional medication and Sri Lankan Ayurvedic treatments in order to maintain perfect mental health and a healthy lifestyle. In recent years Wellness tourism has contributed a higher proportion to our country’s Domestic Income. Even though the pandemic has negative impacts on our tourism sector, the market for herbal products is now rapidly growing locally as well as globally. Presently, the government authorities engage in preparing mechanisms to recover from this pandemic situation and at the same time welcome tourists to our country.

I appreciate the effort taken through the “Medicare 2024- Exhibition to be aware and familiarize the traditional and Ayurveda herbal remedies and ensure the existence of long healthy life of the global community. The well being of our Ayurveda and Indigenous medicine sector depends on the steps taken to preserve and transmit its values to the next generations. This exhibition is considered as a vital need a time like this. Finally, I wish all the very best to the personnel involved in this exceptional work.
